Description
This course will provide the student with the principles of mechanical ventilators and management of the mechanically ventilated patient. The discussion will focus on establishing the need for, and the initiation and modification of, mechanical ventilation based on patient situation/disease, protocols and evidence-based medicine. Mechanical ventilators will be classified according to their capabilities and specifications. Specific ventilators and ventilatory techniques, both invasive and non-invasive, will be presented. Simulations of clinical scenarios will be presented so the student may apply knowledge and skills, and learn to work as a member of a collaborative healthcare team. Corequisites: RTS120, RTS127
