Description

This multi-phase approach is designed to prepare students to become a certified phlebotomist that will transition from the classroom into the workforce. This course will consist of a three-phase sequence dealing with the theory and practice, lab & a clinical experience. In the first phase, students on-line learning will focus on infection control & safety practices, phlebotomy equipment and techniques, anatomy and physiology of the circulatory system, specimen preparation and handling and the ethical and legal aspects of phlebotomy. As well as the students will perform proper procedures in the collection of blood specimens by venipuncture in a classroom (lab) setting. The second phase, students will perform venipuncture and the associated labs at a hospital or a practice-based laboratory for 100 hours. The third phase, prepares each student to sit for the ASCP Certification.
