Description
OTS 222 provides students the opportunity to explore Occupational Therapy theory and practice, and the role of the OTA relative to behavioral health care. Major mental health diagnoses and the way in which they interfere with occupational performance across the lifespan will be examined. Students will explore systems/contexts of health care service delivery, models of service, and roles for occupational therapy assistants consistent with the current delivery of behavioral health services. Students learn about the OT process and subsequently to create occupation-based interventions based on evaluation, activity analysis, critical thinking, and evidence. Participation, engagement and quality of life issues are examined. Students will become acquainted with the varied roles OT can assume in the mental health arena including: advocacy, employment, case management, etc. OTS 222 involves integrated lab experiences to support learning.
