Literature, Culture, and Diversity (ENG 224)
Term: 2023-2024 AY - Spring Semester
This course will provide students the opportunity to examine literature through the culturallenses of gender, race/ethnicity, class, and sexual identity. Through this method of inquiry,students will gain exposure to the diversity of voices that make up society, art, and culture,allowing a greater understanding of themselves and the larger world around them.Through the study of novels, short stories, poetry, nonfiction, and literary criticism, this coursewill challenge students to think deeply, to question, and to appreciate language, culture, anddiversity through literature.This course is designated as Writing Intensive. Writing Intensive courses meet at least three ofthe four following criteria: 40% of overall course grade is based on formalized writingassignments, writing instruction is part of the course, drafts of writing assignments are required,and feedback is given on formal elements of writing. Prereq: Grade of "C" or better in ENG 101 or ENG 102.
