Description

This course is the first of a two-part sequence dealing with the role of the medical assistant in health care. Student learning will be focused on infection control procedure, types and uses of personal protective equipment (PPE), and emergency protective practices. There will be an introduction to the medical assistant’s role in obtaining patient histories and documentation within an EMR, assisting in physical exams for all of the medical specialities; and obtaining vital signs. In addition, the student will evaluate safe work environments, prepare and implement emergency preparedness plans. Co-requisite: BIO 119, MAS 101, MAS 102, MAS 110, MAS117 or permission of instructor.
